The real star of the novel, which received the Akutagawa Award, is the convenience store. But what makes these stores so charming?

In his popular novel, The Women’s Store, a Japanese author, Sayak Murat, described the story of Keiko Furukura, a worker in an unnamed store who is trying to find a place in a traditional society due to his 36-year-old marriage status.

However, the real star of the history of the unorthodox character is her workplace, which is described as a tiny ecosystem aimed not only at providing nutrition to consumers, but also to fill their lives with new sources of joy.

“The convenience store is not just a place where customers come to buy practical necessities,” Furukura said on the pages of the novel. “It’s about to be where they can enjoy and enjoy the discovery of things they love.”
